Coleoxestia nitida (Bates, 1872) View in CoL
( Figs. 13–14 View FIGURES 8 – 14. 8 – 10 )
Xestia nitida Bates, 1872: 172 ; Gemminger & Harold, 1872: 2807; Bates, 1880: 17.

Remarks. Bates (1872) described C. nitida from Nicaragua. Fragoso (1982) was the first who recorded this species in South America ( Colombia). Monné & Giesbert (1994) reported the species from Mexico to Colombia. Martins & Monné (2005) recorded the species to southeast Brazil. Currently the species is recorded from Mexico (Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Quintana Roo), Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná) (Monné 2016). We examined a male/female pair from Ecuador and a male from Bolivia (new country record).
The couple from Ecuador has the prothorax with a very distinct spine laterally ( Figs. 13–14 View FIGURES 8 – 14. 8 – 10 ). Notwithstanding, we think they do not belong to a different species, even having the scape more coarsely punctate than all specimens from Panama and southeast Brazil examined by us. The same variation (presence or absence of lateral spine at prothorax) was found in C. rufosemivittata (see above).
Material examined (only Ecuador and Bolivia). ECUADOR, Manabi: Pedernales (00º05’02”N / 79º59’28”W), 1 male, 1 female, 02.II.2008, U. Roosileht col. ( MZSP; EMNH). BOLIVIA, Santa Cruz: Hotel Flora & Fauna, 1 male, 14–20.XI.2008, Galileo, Vanin & Martins col. ( MZSP).
