( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 )

Alpheus thomasi Hendrix & Gore 1973: 415 View in CoL , figs. 1–3.

Material examined. Brazil, Ceará: 1 female (missing major cheliped), LIMCE-UFC 296, Trairí, Praia de Mundaú, coll. PROBIO team, 14.iii.2003; 1 male, LIMCE-UFC 298, same collection data.

Additional material. Brazil, Rio Grande do Norte: 1 male, OUMNH.ZC.2012-07-0032, Areia Branca, Praia de Baixa Grande, rocky shore close to estuary, coll. P.P.G. Pachelle, 29.ix.2011 [fcn 11-142]; 1 ov. female, RMNH D 54842 View Materials , same collection data [fcn 11-141].

Distribution. Western Atlantic: USA (Florida), Cuba, Gulf of Mexico, Panama and Brazil (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná) ( Christoffersen 1998; Soledade & Almeida 2013; present study).

Remarks. The present material is the first record of Alpheus thomasi for the Brazilian states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. This colourful snapping shrimp, easily identifiable in the field by its diagnostic colour pattern ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 , see also Hendrix & Gore 1973; Anker et al. 2008), appears to be relatively widespread in Brazil, although localised and not very common.
