[59] Semachrysa decorata ( Esben-Petersen, 1913) View in CoL

( Fig. 89 View FIGURE 89 )

Chrysopa decorata Esben-Petersen, 1913: 260 View in CoL . Type locality: China (Taiwan). Lectotype in SDEI.

Chrysopa (Indochrysa) nigribasis var. rectoides Banks, 1939: 471 View in CoL . Type locality: China (Hainan, Dwa Bi). Holotype in MCZ. Semachrysa decorata View in CoL : Brooks, 1983: 14.

Diagnosis. Compound eyes prominent. Head with black spots on lateral sides of vertex, gena and between frons and clypeus. Frons with three pairs of black spots on lateral sides and a dark spot at middle. Antennae yellow, scape with brown stripe on outer side. Clypeal margin with brown stripes. Maxillary and labial palpi with brown stripes on outer side. Mesonotum with brown markings on prescutum and scutum, pronotum and metanotum without markings. Forewing with brown shadings on 4th posterior margin crossveins, with pale brown shading on psm-psc crossveins, CuP and gradate series; m1 smaller than m2, im ovoid; c1 smaller than c2; dcc opened. Hindwing without shadings. Abdomen with dense setae. Male gonarcus arcuate, entoprocessus small and narrow, arcessus with three setae. Female subgenitale broad and bilobed apically; spermatheca thick, vela medium length, ventral impression deep, duct long and coiled.

Distribution. China (Hainan, Taiwan); Japan (Honshu); Malaysia (Pahang); Philippines.

Remarks. According to Brooks (1983), this species is distinguished from other species by the presence of three long setae on male arcessus. In fact, this species is similar to Se. guangxiensis Yang & Yang, 1991 , which has no setae on male arcessus. We re-examined type and non-type specimens of Se. guangxiensis , and found that all male specimens have no setae on arcessus. And we identify our female material as Se. guangxiensis by calculating genetic distance using COI gene fragments (less than 0.02). Some earlier records of Se. decorata in China may be due to the misidentification of Se. guangxiensis .
