Lectotypification of Artemisia vulgaris var. mongolica View in CoL
Since the epithet “ mongolica ” was ascribed by Besser to Fischer, it is a strong argument in favor of selecting a lectotype from the available specimens that originated from the Fischer herbarium. Having in mind that and other arguments discussed above, the KW specimen is selected here as the lectotype. It is a specimen collected by Osip Vlasov (Власов in Russian; “Vlassov” in the Latinized form; on some labels also transliterated as “Vlasoff” and “Wlasow”) in Dauria (Dahuria) and provided to Besser by Fischer, with plant characters matching the original description, representing all parts of the plant (including a part of the rhizome, not present in other consulted specimens), and corresponding to the modern taxonomic concept of A. mongolica . This specimen was definitely studied by Besser in the course of the preparation of his taxonomic account (Besser 1832; 1834) ; it was placed in an original folder among other specimens bearing annotations by Besser. As to other similar specimens from “Dahuria” collected by Vlasov (in particular, those reported from LE, and other duplicates that might be discovered in other herbaria), they can be considered as isolectotypes .
