Cryptophyllus sp. P3

(Pl. II: Fig. 14)

2013 Cryptophyllus sp. P3; Maillet: 98, pl. XII, figs. 23–24.? 2013a Cryptophyllus sp. B; Maillet et al.: 479, pl. I, fig. 38.

Material. 9 specimens (3 C, 6 V).

Description. Small carapace, asymmetric and sub-triangular in lateral view. Moult retention ostracod with at least 6 exuviae. Straight dorsal margin. Rounded umbo prominent over dorsal margin at 1/3 anterior. Anterior and posterior cardinal angles of about 150°. Free margins of the carapace well rounded, more convex posterior parts. Convexity point between anterior and ventral margins. Anterior part of the carapace higher than the posterior one. Hmax et 1/3 anterior; Lmax median; Wmax clearly dorsal and slightly anterior (umbo). Overlap of the valves unknown. Surface smooth (?). Possible slight nodes in the anterior parts of exuviae.

Discussion. By the small size of the carapace and its general outline, these specimens might be Cryptophyllus sp. B of Maillet et al. (2013a), from the Middle Devonian of the Saoura. The general bad preservation makes any identification difficult.

Occurrence. Middle and Upper Givetian (Candás Fm, mbs C and D), Asturias (Peran-Perlora section).
