Diagnosis

Pereopods 5–6 propodus with line of curved setae, carpus covered with setae on rostral Antennula second article with several spines on its surface. Male pleopod 1 inner margin with 1 setae; endopod bearing a tuft of setae at apex.

Description

Body elongated, convex, colour in alcohol black with white margin ( Figure 1 View Figure 1 (B)). Dorsal surface smooth long and tricorn-shaped scale-setae ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (B)). Noduli laterales on pereonites 3–4 farther from margins than those on pereonites 1–2 and 5–7 ( Figures 4 View Figure 4 (A)) and 5(G)). Cephalon with small medial

HISTORY HISTORY

(F) maxilliped; (G), position of noduli lateralis ( holotype, male). Scale bars: 0.5 mm.

Antenna of medium length, reaching pereonite 3; flagellum with 2 articles, proximal article approximately

HISTORY backwards ( Figures 1B View Figure 1 and 5A View Figure 5 ). Pereopod 1 bearing brush of long bifurcated setae on its carpus merus ( Figure 5D View Figure 5 ). Pereopods 5–6 propodus with 1 line of curved setae, carpus rostral surface several setae ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (E,)). Pereopod 7 ischium fringed with setae, sternal margin with shallow ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (G)).

Left mandible with molar process carrying 2 teeth and lacinia mobilis with straight edge; lobe setae with 4 plumose penicils ( Figure 6 View Figure 6 (B)). Right mandible with molar process carrying 3 teeth and mobilis with 2 teeth; lobe covered by setae with 5 plumose penicils; pars molaris consisting of plumose setae on a short common socket ( Figure 6 View Figure 6 (C)). First maxilla with outer branch bearing 4 + inner branch with 2 long penicils and a triangular posterior point ( Figure 6 View Figure 6 (E)). Second maxilla bilobate and setose ( Figure 6 View Figure 6 (D)); Maxilliped endite rectangular with 4 spurs, palp slender ( Figure 6 View Figure 6 (

Pleopods 1–5 exopods with monospiracular internal lungs ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (H–L)). Male pleopod 1 exopod outer margin slightly sinuous, bearing several setae near middle and apex, inner margin with 1 line endopod with broad basal part, narrowed towards apex, bearing a tuft of setae ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (H)). exopod triangular, bearing 1 line of setae on outer margin; endopod longer than exopod, distal article long ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (I)). Pleopods 3–5 exopods bearing 1 line of dense setae on outer margin ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (J–L)) triangular, almost twice as wide as long, lateral margins slightly concave, posterior apex pointed; exopod 4.8–5.0 times as long as protopod ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (A)).

Size

Males 18–28 mm, females 18–19 mm.

Distribution

China ( Xinjiang).

Etymology

From the Latin curvatus = curved. The new species name refers to the pereopods 5 and 6 propodus line of curved setae. We suggest the Chinese common name ‘弯刺原气管虫’.
