Material examined. None.

Distribution. Western Atlantic— French Guiana, Brazil (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) ( McLaughlin & Provenzano 1974; Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1987; Coelho et al. 2007).

Remarks. Despite the wide range of Paguristes perplexus in Brazil, its distribution shows some gaps of records and further investigation on this species is necessary. This seems to be a naturally uncommon species. Eventhough we did not collect specimens in São Paulo during our survey nor found material deposited in the collections analyzed, we were able to sample tissue of a specimen from French Guiana deposited at the USNM and obtain a sequence of 16S, which may be useful in future comparisons.
