Distribution. Western Atlantic— USA (North Carolina to Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, Brazil (Amapá, Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina) ( Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1980; Williams 1984; Rieger 1998; Melo 1999; Coelho et al. 2007; Nucci & Melo 2011; Lemaitre & Tavares 2015).

Remarks. Nucci & Melo (2011) reported few individuals obtained in São Paulo during the deep-water surveys in the Project REVIZEE (st. 6659, 2 spec., MZUSP 13866; st. 6660, 2 spec., MZUSP 13883; 16 spec., MZUSP 13772; st. 6665, 3 spec., MZUSP 13889). The distribution of this species along the Brazilian coast was reported recently by Nucci & Melo (2011) and extended by Lemaitre & Tavares (2015).
