Diagnosis. Body length ranging from 19.2 mm to 19.6 mm. Maximum head width across the mandibular plates less than half the head width across the eyes; inner margins of mandibular plates straight anterior to clypeus; distal half of antennomeres I surpassing the mandibular plates; antennomeres II slightly clavate, around half the length of antennomeres I; labium surpassing the middle of metasternum, with an inconspicuous intercalary segment between labiomeres I an II; metasternum flat, elevated. Pygophore posterolateral angles with apices acute in dorsal view; ventral rim v-shaped with dense tufts of long setae; apical branch of the parameres’ head single, not bifurcated.

Description. Body dark brown ( Fig. 22), length ranging from 19.2 mm to 19.6 mm. Head wider than long; maximum head width across the mandibular plates less than half the head width across the eyes; posterior margins of the eyes forming an angle of less than 45º with the longitudinal body axis; each mandibular plate wider than clypeus, with the outer margin convex and the inner margin straight anterior to clypeus, apex acute; distal half of antennomeres I surpassing the mandibular plates; antennomeres II slightly clavate, around half the length of antennomeres I; proportion of antennomeres: I<II<III ≅ IV<V ( Fig. 23, A); labium surpassing the middle of metasternum ( Fig. 21, B), with an inconspicuous intercalary segment between labiomeres I an II ( Fig. 23, B), proportion of labiomeres: I<II>III>IV.

Thorax. Pronotum twice as wide as long; anterior and lateral margins shallowly concave ( Fig. 23, A). Lateral half of the corial posterior margin concave, apical angle surpassing the anterior margin of connexival segment VI ( Fig. 22, A). Metasternum flat, elevated.

Abdomen. Medial portion of urosternites yellowish and unpunctured ( Fig. 22, B); inner trichobothria lateral to spiracles.

Male. Measurements (n=1): Total length 19.60; width of abdomen 9.00; head length 2.20; width 3.40; pronotum length 3.70; width 7.90; scutellum length 6.90; width 5.00; length of antennomeres: I 1.50, II 0.90, III 3.00, IV 2.90, V -; length of labiomeres: I 1.00, Int. 0.30, II 1.70, III 1.70, IV 1.40.

Genitalia ( Fig. 24). Pygophore. Posterolateral angles dorsally excavated with lateral margins convex, apices acute and directed to each other ( Fig. 24, A, B, E); ventral rim v-shaped with dense tufts of long setae ( Fig. 24, E). Segment X with dense setae along the posterior margin; apex cone-shaped, posteriorly projected ( Fig. 24, A–C). Parameres laterally sinuous; head of parameres not bifurcated, tapering posteriorly ( Fig. 24, A, green line).

Female. Measurements (n=1): Total length 19.20; width of abdomen 8.70; head length 2.00; width 3.50; pronotum length 4.00; width 8.30; scutellum length 7.00; width 5.20; length of antennomeres: I 1.50, II 0.90, III 3.00, IV 3.00, V 3.80; length of labiomeres: I 1.10, Int. 0.30, II 2.00, III 1.70, IV 1.40.

Genitalia. ( Fig. 25). Valvifers VIII longer than wide, lateral angles broadly convex and posteriorly projected relative to the sutural angles, posterior margins convex, sutural margins with sparse setae ( Fig. 25, A, vfVIII); laterotergites VIII as wide as long, posterior margins subrectilinear ( Fig. 25, A, laVIII); laterotergites IX with sparse setae, lateral margins slightly concave, mesial margins convex, and rounded apices, not surpassing mediotergite VIII ( Fig. 25, A, laIX). Valvulae IX with 1+1 elliptical secondary thickenings ventral to the ring sclerites; thickening of vaginal intima elliptical in ventral view; ring sclerites subtriangular, slightly wider than the thickening of the vaginal intima ( Fig. 25, B); proximal portion of ductus receptaculi coiled, more than twice longer than the vesicular area ( Fig. 25, B, drp); median duct of vesicular area uniformly wide through its length; distal portion of ductus receptaculi dilated towards the pars intermedialis, 1.5 times longer than pars intermedialis and capsula seminalis taken together ( Fig. 25, B, drd); pars intermedialis three times longer than capsula seminalis, this with three digitiform projections ( Fig. 25, B, pi, cs).

Comments. Similar to Janeirona insignis and Janeirona aurea Sampaio & Campos sp. nov.. Differs from J. insignis by the not dilated antennomeres I, labium surpassing the middle of the metasternum, labial intercalary segment, metasternum transversely flat, the head of parameres not bifurcated, and pygophore posterolateral angles with acute apices directed to each other. Differs from J. aurea Sampaio & Campos sp. nov. by the dark venter color, metasternum flat, and labium surpassing the middle of the metasternum. Differs from all species in the genus by the clavate antennomeres II. It was not possible to access the holotype of Janeirona asaroana , however, the information present in Brailovsky (1988) is sufficiently detailed to propose J. asaroana a new junior synonym of Janeirona costalimai , whose holotype the first author examined in the MACN. From the description and illustrations of J. asaroana , this species shares with J. costalimai the same diagnostic characters, notably the distal half of antennomeres I surpassing the mandibular plates, antennomeres II slightly clavate, ventral rim of pygophore v-shaped with dense tufts of long setae, and apices of the posterolateral angles of pygophore acute and directed to each other.
