Description.
Length: 7–9 mm (4 specimens measured).
Head: Dark red-brown to black; interocular space 2.4 eye widths; antennae dark red-brown, very long, clearly reaching beyond pronotal base when laid back.
Pronotum: Length to width ratio 1.0:1; brown.
Elytra: Light brown to brown, with a large dark brown basal and a large dark brown apical macula on each side.
Legs: Brown; profemora thicker than mesofemora thicker than metafemora; protibiae straight, mesotibiae bent, metatibiae almost straight, mesotibiae with a larger (but not stout) spur and a smaller spur, metatibial spurs short, almost straight, slightly bent at the tip.
Lower surface: Dark brown.
Terminal abdominal segments: Anterior margin of pygidium straight, posterior margin almost straight, lateral margins curved, pygidial arms long, medium broad and distinctly converging posteriorly; anterior margin of sixth ventrite slightly sinuous, posterior margin slightly concave, lateral margins slightly curved and converging posteriorly.
Male genitalia: Phallus shorter than tegmen, dorsal sinus deep, ventral sinus short and narrow, phallobasic struts thin, almost straight, tips acute, phallobasic apodeme medium broad and slightly dilated towards its anterior limit; phallic tip constricted towards its posterior limit, phallic plates broad, phallic struts medium broad, tips curved; spicular fork fused up to one third, spiculae slightly sinuous, with distinct thorns, tips of spiculae bent and distinctly dilated.
Distribution. India.
Seasonal occurrence. Collected in July.
Etymology. The specific epithet, brunnorbis , a Latin adjective, refers to the large round brown maculae on the elytra.
Diagnosis. Neorthrius brunnorbis can be recognized by its unicolored legs and the long antennae. The sixth ventrite is stout and rectangular.
