Global distribution: NT.
Argentinian distribution: Buenos Aires, Jujuy, La Pampa, Mendoza, Río Negro, Santa Cruz.
Ecology: This species has been found in a diverse range of aquatic habitats, including permanent lakes and lotic water bodies, from freshwater to sub-saline environments. It exhibits a wide altitudinal distribution, ranging from 59 to 956 m a.s.l., a broad temperature range, varying from 7.5 to 34.1 °C, in waters with a pH level ranging from neutral to alkaline (pH: 7.6–10.8) and a wide range of electrical conductivity values (215–51694 μS/cm). Dissolved oxygen saturation levels have been found to vary between 20% and 170%. Given its occurrence in such diverse conditions, this species is considered as an indicator of eutrophic environments.
