Material examined
Holotype. NNUSB0228 , an adult male; China: Mt Maiji, Tianshui City , Gansu Province, on the uppermost layer of the forest floor consisting chiefly of fallen leaves and other decaying organic matter and on the sandstone covered with moss, 34 ◦ 3 ′ N, 106 ◦ 0 ′ E, at an elevation of 1000–1020 m, 4 August 2006, coll. Paratypes. NNUSB0228–0233 , six adult males ; NNUSB0234–0242 , nine adult females; same data as for holotype GoogleMaps .
Males
Body length 7.0– 8.5 mm; antennae: 6.8–7.5 mm; terminal filament: 9.0– 9.5 mm; cerci: 3.1–4.5 mm. Body brownish grey, covered densely with scales and with pigments. Terga mostly covered with brown scales. No spots present on terga. Epidermic pigment on head capsule, labium, mandibles, maxillae, maxillary palp and legs.
Head ( Figure 6A View Figure 6 ) brown between antennae, clypeus and labrum. Clypeus and labrum covered with numerous short, thin setae. Frons convex moderately, with scales between antennae and ocelli.
Compound eyes large and brownish, with a huge yellowish patch on inner corner (in alcohol), contact line/length: 0.52; length/width: 0.85–0.86. Paired ocelli shoeshaped, enlarged in submedian area, brownish (in alcohol) with white edge; width of ocellus slightly narrower than that of compound eye (width of ocellus about 0.72–0.75 of that of compound eye).
Antennae shorter than body length, antennae length/body length about 0.70. Scapus and pedicellus of antennae densely scaled, flagellum not scaled. Scapus rather long (length/width about 2.0); pedicellus as long as wide. Flagellum uniformly lightbrownish, junctions between segments pale. Divisions number of flagellum maximum observed 24 divisions, proximal 10 divisions not annulated, divisions 11–15 annulated into three to six annuli, divisions 16–26 with seven to nine annuli. The distal chains with eight or nine annuli, each one about thrice as wide as long ( Figure 6B View Figure 6 ).
Mandibles quite robust, provided with four typical apical teeth. Maxillary palp ( Figure 6D View Figure 6 ) provided with numerous setae of moderate size. Setae in articles IV– VII denser than those in articles I– III. Articles II – VII scaled densely. Articles IV– VII provided with numerous short setae. External apophysis of article I cone-shaped and slightly curved backwards with setae sparsely on ventral surface. Article II without setae curved inwards, not extending beyond the third article. Article III with dense short setae on ventral surface and few setae on internal distal end, article VII cone-shaped. Dorsal surface of the articles V – VII with hyaline spines as follows: V: 4–6; VI: 10–12; VII: 12–14. Ratio of length article VII / VI: 0.66; article IV/ V: 0.67–0.70.
Labial palp as in Figure 6C View Figure 6 , article I not scaled, articles II, III sparsely scaled and with dense setae; article III almost club like, with sensorial cones on apical part.
Legs ( Figures 6E–G View Figure 6 ) and coxal stylets scaled. Mid and hind legs with coxal stylets. Femur of fore leg not swollen, ratio of length to width: 2.0. Spines present on femur, light-coloured. Length of tibia I: 0.50–0.52 mm; tibia II: 0.46–048 mm; tibia III: 0.64– 0.67 mm. Fore legs stronger than others, tibia of hind legs elongated. Spines in legs as follows: tibia I: 0–1; tibia II: 1–2; tibia III: 3; number of 1–3 segments of tarsus I: 4–6, 8–10, 8–10; tarsus II: 4–6, 8–10, 8–10; tarsus III: 4–6, 8–10, 8–10.
Urosternites not pigmented. Abdominal stylets not especially elongated except IXth segment. Abdominal segments I– VII with a pair of eversible vesicles. Sternum V with nearly right posterior angle (87–89 ◦); length/basal width of sternum V ( Figure 6H View Figure 6 ): 0.66–0.67. Urosternite VII ( Figure 6I View Figure 6 ) without swollen on its inner posterior part.
A penis and a pair of parameres ( Figure 6J View Figure 6 ) with 1+4 divisions (or 5 divisions) extending backward to two-thirds of length of the urosternite IX. Penis as long as paramere, ratio of the length of base/tip: 3.0–3.2, opening of penis small and apical. Male genitalia completely covered by the IXth urosternite. Apical spine of abdominal stylets strong, medium-sized. IXth coxite provided with 12–13 spines near apex. Length ratios of stylet (excluding apical spine) to coxite, V: 0.54; VIII: 0.63; IX: 0.64; length ratios of apical spine to stylet, V: 0.37–0.40; VIII: 0.49–0.50; IX: 0.35–0.37.
Terminal filament and cerci without piliform scales, with numerous scales.
Females
Body length 8.0–9.0 mm; antennae: 5.4–6.0 mm; terminal filament: 7.5–8.5 mm; cerci: 3.5–4.0 mm. Scale pattern and epidermic pigment as in male.
Head ( Figure 6K View Figure 6 ) as in male. More setae present in the labrum and the clypeus. Compound eyes as in the male, the contact line/length: 0.50–0.52; length/width: 0.84. Paired ocelli shoe-shaped, red brownish (in alcohol), the width of ocellus slightly narrower than that of compound eye (width of ocellus about 0.74–0.76 of that of compound eye).
Antennae as in male. Antennae length/body length about 0.70. Scapus rather long (length/width about 2.00). Division number of flagellum maximum observed 26. Proximal 10 divisions not annulated, divisions 11–14 annulated into three to four annuli, divisions 15–24 with six to seven annuli. The distal chains with seven or eight annuli, which are about as long as wide ( Figure 6L View Figure 6 ). The distal chains with sensilla and thin sensorial points.
Maxillary palp ( Figure 6N View Figure 6 ) as in male. Articles II – VII densely scaled. Article I only scaled on ventral surface, dense setae on articles IV– VII, and article VII coneshaped. Dorsal surface of the articles V – VII with hyaline spines as follows: V: 4–6; VI: 14–16; VII: 14–16. Ratio of length of article VII / VI: 0.77; article IV/ V: 0.66–0.68.
Labial palp ( Figure 6M View Figure 6 ) as in male.
Legs ( Figure 6O–Q View Figure 6 ) as in male. Femur of fore leg not swollen, ratio of length to width: 1.80. Spines present on femur, light-coloured. Length of tibia I: 0.48–0.50 mm; tibia II: 0.49–0.50 mm; tibia III: 0.69–0.70 mm. Fore leg stronger than others, tibia of hind leg obviously elongated. Spines in legs as follows: tibia I: 1–2; tibia II: 1–2; tibia III: 3; number of 1–3 segments of tarsus I: 4–6, 10–14, 10–12; tarsus II: 4–6, 10–14, 10–12; tarsus III: 4–6, 10–14, 10–12.
Abdominal segments as in male. Length/basal width of sternum V ( Figure 6R View Figure 6 ): 0.66–0.67. Medial part of urosternite VII ( Figure 6S View Figure 6 ) projected and swollen, exceeding posterior margin.
Ovipositor of the tertiary type and slightly exceeding beyond the stylet of urosternite IX. Gonapophysis VIII ( Figure 6T–V View Figure 6 ) with 50–52 divisions, sensilla present except 2–3 basal divisions. Gonapophysis IX ( Figure 6W–Y View Figure 6 ) with 50 divisions, the basal 20– 22 divisions with some short setae. IXth coxite provided with eight or nine spines near apex. Length ratios of stylet (excluding apical spine) to coxite, V : 0.50–0.52; VIII: 0.60–0.62; IX: 0.60–0.62; length ratios of apical spine to stylet, V: 0.48–0.50; VIII: 0.42–0.44; IX: 0.25–0.28.
Terminal filaments and cerci similar to those of male.
Etymology
The specific name refers to the type locality.
