TYPE LOCALITY: French Guiana, Cayenne .

DISTRIBUTION: Andes of N. Ecuador and Colombia; Venezuela; Guianas; Tobago; Trinidad; perhaps Martinique.

COMMENT: Formerly included in Echimys ; transferred to Makalata by Husson, 1978:445. Corbet and Hill, 1980:194, listed this species in Echimys . Martinique record probably erroneous; see Hall, 1981: 1180.
