COMMENT: There is no general agreement concerning the familial or subfamilial status of this taxon; see Husson, 1978:472, and Cabrera, 1961:593 ( Agoutidae ), Hall, 1981: 858 (Agoutinae of the Dasyproctidae ), Starrett, 1967, in Anderson and Jones, p. 269 (Cuniculinae of the Dasyproctidae ), and Ellerman, 1940:221 ( Cuniculidae ).
