TYPE LOCALITY: Ecuador, Andes .

DISTRIBUTION: Mountains of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and N. W. Venezuela.

COMMENT: Cabrera, 1961:595, placed this species in Stictomys , but Handley, 1976, Brigham Young Univ. Sci. Bull. Biol. Ser., 20(5):55, and Gardner, 1971, Experientia, 26: 1088, included it in Agouti .
