Material.— Spitsbergen: Sassenfjorden ( NRM S 151685); Carnian (Upper Triassic).

Description.— One specimen from Sassenfjorden represents a Neocalamites -like stem, which has a circumference intermediate to the “categories” distinguished above (Fig. 2 J). The width of the axis is 21 mm at the only node preserved and decreases to 17 mm in the internode. The surface is covered with longitudinal striae, each less than 1 mm wide.

Remarks.— The specimen is similar to Neocalamites merianii , but does not fit in any of the size categories distinguished above for that species and is, therefore, kept separate, since it also comes from a different locality.
