Stem30-50(-60) cm, stout, somewhat compressed and with greyish remains of leaf-sheaths at base. Leaves 1-2 mm wide, tapering gradually to an abruptly mucronate apex. Ligule 1-2 mm, truncate. Panicle 6-9 cm, narrow; branches short, more orless erect. Spikelets with 2-4 florets. Glumes unequal. Lemma glabrous. Anthers 2-5-3 -7 mm. Meadows and open woods. Mountains of Krym. Rs (K). (Caucasus, N.E. Turkey, W. Iran.)

Represented in Europe by the endemic subsp. fagetorum (P. Smirnov) Tzvelev in Fedorov, Fl. Part. Eur. URSS 1: 285 (1974) ( P. fagetorum P. Smirnov ).
