( Triticum ponticum Podp .):

Stems 50-100 cm. Lower sheaths usually ciliate. Spikes 10-35 cm; lower internodes usually much longer than the spikelets. Spikelets usually 17-25 mm, with 8-13 florets. Glumes 9-11 mm, usually 5- to 7-veined. Lemma 10-13 mm, glabrous, sometimes minutely hairy along the margins. Palea with cilia 0-1-0-3 mm on the whole length of keels. 2n = 70 (56). Dry or saline habitats. S.E. Europe.
