Stems 35-65 cm. Lower leaves 1-2 mm wide, flat, soft, finely veined, densely and shortly hairy on the upper surface, sparsely ciliate, minutely hairy beneath; lower sheaths strigulose. Spikes 7-15 cm, lax. Spikelets 10-11 mm, conspicuously compressed, with 6-9 florets. Glumes usually 4-6 mm, usually 5-veined. Lemma usually 6 mm, emarginate, with a short mucro in the sinus. Palea ciliolate on keels near the apex. Anthers c. 4 mm. Coastal marshes. Mediterranean region, westwards to Sicilia. Al Cr Gr Si Tu.
