Bulbs 2, in a common tunic. Stem glabrous. Basal leaves usually 2, linear, subterete, fistular; cauline 2, opposite, broadly lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous. Flowers (1—)3—5; pedicels more or less hairy. Perianth-segments 13—17(—20) mm, elliptic-lanceolate, obtuse to subacute. Capsule obovoid; seeds subglobose. Mountains of Europe, from E. Carpathians southwards to the Pyrenees, Sicilia, S. Greece and Krym; at low altitudes in N.E. Russia. Au Bu Co Ga Gr He Hs It Rm Rs (N, W, K,?E) Si. (13-15). G. arvensis group. Bulbs 2, enclosed in a common tunic. Stem puberulent. Basal leaves 2; cauline 2, opposite or almost so, lanceolate, pubescent. Pedicels hairy at least at the base. Capsule obovoid-oblong. Seeds subglobose.
