Style usually equalling or exceeding the stamens. Flowers often purple, lilac or striped; segments (2-5-)3-5-5 x 0-9- 2 cm. 2« = 8, 10, 12, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23. Woods and mountain meadows. From Italy eastwards; naturalized in Britain.
