Type material. Holotype ( BMNH): 1 male, “ MALAY PENINS: PAHANG, F.M.S Fraser’s Hill 4000 ft. 20-7- 1936 ”; “ Holotype ”; “ Ex F.M.S. Museum. B.M. 1955-354.”; “ Scirtes basifasciatus n sp”, “descré”.
Description. Male. Body oblong, slightly convex. Coloration of head, pronotum, and scutellum yellow; elytra brownish black with yellow maculation consisting of: basal stripe extending to the suture, posterior transverse arcuate band consisting of 4 oval spots in apical 1/3 of elytra, apical subtriangular spot, and elongate spot between apical spot and arcuate band; legs yellow, hind legs missing in the holotype; mouthparts brownish, antennomeres 1–3 yellow, remaining infuscate, brownish.
Head of moderate size, slightly convex in dorsal aspect, finely punctate; clypeus long, expanded anterolaterally, front margin gently arcuate. Eyes moderate in size, prominent; the distance between the eyes ca. 2.1 times as long as the maximum diameter of the eye. Antennae filiform. Pronotum slightly convex in mesal part of the disk, finely punctate; antero-lateral angles somewhat acute, projecting anteriorly; front and lateral margins gently arcuate; postero-lateral angles right-angled; posterior margin slightly bisinuate; PW/PL 2.35. Scutellum relatively small, finely punctate, equilateral-triangular. Elytra oblong-oval, widest at the middle, punctation stronger than on pronotum; humeri elevated; EL/EW 1.22; EL/PL 4.41; EW/PW 1.54; TL/EW 1.87. Legs relatively long. Hind legs missing in the holotype. Tergite VIII moderately sclerotized, trapezoidal, bearing a row of setae on apical margin, with a pair of long apodemes; tergite IX slightly sclerotized, apical margin arcuate, with a pair of stout apodemes, narrowed at base; sternite IX almost membranous, with arcuate margin, bearing dense setae in apical part. Aedeagus symmetrical. Tegmen well sclerotized, connected with penis; basal part semicircular; parameres short, outwardly curved, of the same lenghts. Penis lightly sclerotized, as long as parameres, connected with tegmen in apical part, well exceeding basal part of tegmen.
Female. Unknown.
Measurements. Male (n = 1): TL 5.75 mm; PW 2.00 mm; PL 0.85 mm; EL 3.75 mm; EW 3.08 mm.
Distribution. Malayan Peninsula (Pahang).
Notes. Basal portion of elytra orange, elytral spots yellow. Similar to Scirtes philippinensis sp. n., but elytral suture orange (black in S. philippinensis sp. n.), penis as long as parameres (much longer than parameres in S. philippinensis sp. n.). Aedeagus similar to the one of Scirtes malaccanus sp. n., but with shorter penis.
