Genus Neolobogynium Hicks, 1957

Diagnosis (adults). Shape ovate. Dorsal shield heterotrichous, with three to five pairs of longer setae (with barbed tips) in medio-lateral and lateral series, i.e., z3, z6, Z4 (all species), Z2 [ N. americanum ( Banks, 1906) , N. zairiensis Elsen, 1975 , N. sorae sp. nov.], s4 ( americanum , zairiensis , male of sorae ); medio-lateral setae Z5 long; lateral setae S5 shorter than Z5 but longer than all setae of marginal series; other dorsal setae very short or vestigial. Ventri-anal shield not extending to posterior margin of idiosoma; ventri-marginal shield completely separated from ventri-anal shield and each other, with wide posterior ends meeting posterior to ventri-anal shield and one pair of setae; stigmata between coxae III and IV; peritremes long extending beyond coxa I. Sternal shield with large anterior portion, posterior margin deeply concave, postero-lateral prolongations well defined and three pairs of setae; setae st2 much closer to st1 and anterior margin than st3 and posterior margin. Separate, free metasternal shields bearing stp3 and or alveolus of st4 (states of st4 and stp3 are uncertain in N. indicum Bhattacharyya, 1969 ). Latigynal shields harp-shaped, with antero-lateral margins invaginated to form two lobes; two pairs of setae placed near the postero-lateral margin of shields; mesogynal shield not fused to ventri-anal shield, with posterior margin well defined. Female tectum pointed, with a pair of lateral spines; male tectum blunt-tipped, lacking lateral spines. Legs I antenniform; one long dorsal seta on genu III and IV (unknown in N. americanum ).
