Redescription

Male

Body length 1.8–2.1 mm; wing length 1.6–1.8 mm.

Head. Frons and face with shining dark metallic green ground colour. Face at its narrowest point, below middle, about half as wide as depth of third antennal segment. Palpi small, brown, each with a black apical bristlet. Rostrum yellowish brown. Occiput shining greenish black. Chaetotaxy as usual; two small postocellars. Postocular cilia uniseriate, black above, yellowish beneath. Antenna (figure 184): short, black; third segment dark brown. Second segment with a circlet of short bristlets, that are longest above. Third segment more or less trapezoidal, with a blunt, downwards shifted apex, nearly twice as deep as long. Arista about four times as long as antenna, pubescent.

Thorax. Mesoscutum and scutellum with shining dark metallic green ground colour. Pleurae dark brown, metallic green shining on larger sclerites; metapleura anteriorly blackish. Chaetotaxy as usual; acr uniseriate, relatively long. Scutellum with two marginals, without lateral hairs. No propleural bristles.

Legs. Legs, including coxae, yellow. Mid coxa with a very vague brownish longitudinal stripe.

Fore leg. Coxa anteriorly with short yellowish hairs that grow longer and darker downwards; at apical rim a row of four brown hair-like bristles. Femur without bristles. Tibia about as long as femur, dorsally with a short serration. First tarsal segment ventrally at base with two small black spinules. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.6:0.31:0.11: 0.08:0.07:0.08.

Mid leg. Coxa without bristles, bearing only short pale and dark hairs. Femur with preapical av and pv, both rather long. Tibia about as long as femur; two ad, one dorsal bristle, a circlet of apicals. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.8:0.35:0.2: 0.16:0.1: 0.1.

Hind leg. Coxa with a weak, black exterior bristle. Femur (figure 185) with a row of four thin, but rather long ventral bristles on apical half, preceded by some shorter bristle-like hairs and hairs; a preapical av, shorter than the ventral bristles. Tibia (figure 185) hardly longer than femur; one ad, and a row of six to eight dorsal bristles of unequal length and strength; the longest are slightly longer than diameter of tibia; no ventral bristles, but a very small av or pv may be present. First tarsal segment feebly thickened; two ventral bristlets; at apex a short fringe, and two spinules. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.85:0.17: 0.27:0.15:0.1:0.11.

Wing. Wing (figure 186) hyaline, without stigma; costa not thickened. r4+5 and m1+2 apically very feebly divergent. Anal vein only a fold. Halters yellow. Squamae yellow, with narrow brown border, and brown cilia.

Abdomen. Terga with shining brownish black ground colour, with black hairs and rather short hind-marginal bristles. Sterna dark brown. Hypopygium (figure 187) dark brown; cerci small, yellowish brown; surstyli finger-shaped, darkened towards their tips. Cerci with a pair of stronger bristles on a papilla.

Female

Body length 2.0– 2.25 mm; wing length 1.6–1.75 mm.

Face a little wider than in male, about three-quarters times as wide as depth of third antennal segment. Fore tibia with a dorsal serration. Mid tibia with two ad, one d, one av and a circlet of apicals. Hind femur ventrally with only somewhat lengthened hairs that are shorter than the preapical av. Hind tibia with the same bristling as in male. Oviscapt dark, with a row of eight short black acanthae.
