Liparis rutteri (Gilbert & Snyder, 1898) View in CoL .
Ringtail Snailfish. To 16.8 cm (6.6 in) TL ( Pietsch and Orr 2019). Attu Island, Aleutian Islands to Gulf of Alaska coasts nearly to the British Columbia border (Mecklenburg et al. 2002), to the Strait of Juan de Fuca ( Pietsch and Orr 2019). Although also recorded from south-eastern Kamchatka to Commander Islands, this part of the range should be reevaluated on the basis of the new morphological information presented by Stein et al. (2003). Benthic; depth: intertidal to about 73 m (239 ft) ( Pietsch and Orr 2019). Historically, the name L. rutteri has been applied to fish which actually represent two different species. The second species, L. adiastolus (see account above), was described by Stein et al. (2003). Mecklenburg et al. (2002) give Alaskan records in addition to those mentioned by Stein et al. (2003).
