Goldrim Surgeonfish, Velvet Surgeonfish, or Whitecheek Surgeonfish. To 22 cm (8.7 in) TL ( Robertson and Allen 2008). Indo-Pacific; western Pacific Ocean north to Yonaguni-jima Island, Japan ( Koeda et al. 2016); southern tip of Baja California (Krupp in Fischer et al. 1995) to Ecuador ( Béarez 1996), including Islas Galápagos ( Grove and Lavenberg 1997). Depth: shallow surge zone to 201 m (659 ft) ( Mundy 2005).
