Clathromangilia granum var. prausi Bellini, 1902a: 91 , 95, figs. 3a–b [ex Monterosato ms.]

Type locality: Capri Island (Naples, Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy) .

Original description: “statura più piccola della precedente” [shell shorter than the previous one— Clathromangelia granum ( Philippi, 1844) , reported as Clathromangilia granum, Phil. ].

Remarks: having been instituted as named after Carlo Praus Franceschini, we rank it subspecific, and thus available ( ICZN 2012: Art. 10, glossary). Praus Franceschini (1906) listed this taxon as a variety of Clathromangelia granum ( Philippi, 1844) . However, material belonging to this taxon was deposited in MZF2 by himself, thus not constituting the original types, and was also not found during current research. Bellini (1929a) subsequently reported it as Clathromangilia granum var. prausis Monteros. in his general overview of the marine molluscan species living in the Gulf of Naples. Taking into account its telegraphic description, as well as the figure attached to it, Clathromangilia granum var. prausi Bellini, 1902 may easily fit several Mediterranean raphitomid taxa, often not even congeneric, and thus it is considered a nomen dubium ( ICZN 2012: glossary).
