Type : JAPAN, Buerger s.n. (lectotype, L-908.311-535 (= L-005244!); designated by Holttum & Edwards, 1986) .

Homotypic synonyms:— Ctenitis maximowicziana (Miquel) Ching (1938: 294) , Dryopsis maximowicziana (Miquel) Holttum & Edwards (1986: 197) .

Note: — Holttum & Edwards (1986) cited L-908.311-535 as holotype of Aspidium maximowiczianum Miquel , but they in fact lectotypified the name. There was no holotype designated in the protologue and there are more than one original element at L .

Heterotypic synonyms:— Nephrodium matsumurae Makino (1899: 63) , Dryopteris matsumurae (Makino) Christensen (1905: 277) . Type: JAPAN. Prov. Tosa: Mt. Yukugura, 28 August 1887, T. Makino s.n. Taiwan: Arisan, Faurie 390 (lectotype P, designated here). — Ctenitis whankanshanensis Ching & Wang (1981: 123) . Type: CHINA. Jiangxi: Yifeng, Whankanshan, Y. K. Shiung 6452 (holotype PE).

This species occurs in China (Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Taiwan, Zhejiang) and Japan (Honshu, Kyushu) .
