Type: CHINA. Yunnan: Great Black Mt., near Mengzi (Mengtse), 8500 ft, W. Hancock 119 (holotype K, isotype US- 00065528!) .
Homotypic synonyms:— Phegopteris sphaeropteroides (Baker) Christ (1899: 14) , Aspidium sphaeropteroides (Baker) Christ (1906: 119) , Athyrium sphaeropteroides (Baker) C. Christensen (1924: 77) , Dryopsis sphaeropteroides (Baker) Holttum & Edwards (1986: 199) .
Athyrium fimbriatum var. sphaeropteroides (Baker) Beddome (1883: 172) View in CoL is sometimes cited as a homotypic synonym of Dryopteris sphaeropteroides View in CoL , which is not correct.
This species occurs in China (Sichuan, Yunnan) .
