Remarks on Cardenio View in CoL
As indicated in the key (couplet 1) Cardenio differs significantly from the remaining Synopiidae . The single species, Cardenio paurodactylus Stebbing, 1888 , was transferred from Synopiidae to a new family Cardenioidae ( Barnard & Karaman, 1987, 1991). Jadzewski & De Broyer (1990) rejected Barnard & Karaman’s proposal and moved Cardenio back to Synopiidae . With a broader analysis of the Synopiidae Cardenio may require separate family subgroup recognition for which Barnard and Karaman’s name would be available. Such a move is outside the scope of the present paper. (Jadzewski & De Broyer’s (1990) paper was too late to be considered by Barnard & Karaman 1991.)
