Type species: Emesis poeas Godman , [1901].
Diagnosis. Distinguished from its relatives by more rounded wings, especially in females, absence of metallic dashes and presence of broader, gray and somewhat silvery bands instead ( Fig. 2c View FIGURE 2 ). In DNA, a combination of the following base pairs is diagnostic: nuclear genome: cne703.2.8:A5082G, cne628.1.1:A2634G, cne8205.5.4:A837G, cne239.4.1:T1275C, cne 2803.9.1:A528C; COI barcode region: T13C, T154C, A208T, T533C, and T562C.
Derivation of the name. The name is a feminine noun in the nominative singular. It is formed from the type species name.
