Material examined. Holotype: SOUTH KOREA, Pyoungchang GW, Moonsen-ri, 23.vii.1996 (H.K. Lee & J.S. Lee), genit. prep. 5864 M. Fibiger, coll. CIS.
Diagnosis. A. koreana is distinguishable from other East Asiatic Araeopteron species by the whitish costa of forewing; the basally and subbasally wide valva; the slightly waved sacculus, subapically broadest; the conspicuously long ventral extension of aedeagus; and the vesica with sclerites, but without cornuti.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ). Wingspan 11.5 mm. Antennae without lamellae, with scales. Labial palps strongly upturned, 3rd segment 1.5 times as long as 2nd. Head small, eyes large. Head, patagia and thorax light grey. Ground colour of forewing and hindwing dark grey, forewing with white streak along radial vein from base to postmedial area and with two orange spots, one between discal spot and costa, the other between costa and place for orbicular spot, if present; hindwing with white patch postmedially by ventral margin, without discal spot. All crosslines indistinctly marked, though terminal line on both wings prominently indicated by black interveinal spots. Underside unicolorously grey, hindwing with discal spot. Colour of abdomen basally and apically grey, medially dark grey. Male genitalia ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 13 – 19 ). Uncus relatively short and broad, subapically curved; membranous part of valva broadest 2/3 from base, there smoothly rounded; inwardly from there to base extremely broad; sacculus smoothly waved ventrally, almost equally broad throughout, subapically broadest; clasper fused to sacculus, ampulla indicated by small elevations, positioned subapically. Coecum of aedeagus relatively narrow, posteriorly to ductus ejaculatorius broader, with prominent ventral extension; vesica with sclerites, without cornuti. Female unknown.
Distribution. South Korea.
Etymology. Derived from the geographical name Korea.
