Evaza kerteszi de Meijere, 1914 View in CoL
( Figs 16–20 View FIGURES 16 – 17 View FIGURES 18 – 20 )
Evaza kerteszi de Meijere, 1914: 11 View in CoL
Diagnosis. Line along upper margin of anepisternum very narrow, tarsi darkened toward apices and distal 2/3 to 3/4 of hind tibia brown, wing almost hyaline, stigma yellow. Scutum with yellowish, dense, short and erect pubescence. Abdomen almost circular, brown to black. Male teminalia with species-specific structures on distal margin of genital capsule.
Redescription. Male ( Figs 16 View FIGURES 16 – 17 , 18–20 View FIGURES 18 – 20 ). Body length 4.8 mm, wing length 6.0 mm. Head distinctly longer than high in profile, ocellar tubercle conspicuously prominent in lateral view. Frontal silvery white patch above antennae large, subtriangular, reaching eye margin on each side. Antenna yellow, arista black. Scape slightly longer than pedicel, inner distal margin of pedicel arched but not prominent. Antennal flagellum barely broader than distal margin of pedicel. Face with narrow whitish line along eye margin and erect black hairs in lower part. Palpus short and inconspicuous, yellowish brown.
Thorax black, yellowish line along upper margin of anepisternum barely or not distinct, scutellar posterior margin narrowly yellow or black and spines yellow. Thoracic pile with yellowish, dense, short and erect pubescence on scutum but mainly white on pleura. Legs yellow, tarsi more darkened distally, hind tibia black except basal 1/4. Wing almost hyaline, only stigma yellow, halter yellow with darkened knob.
Abdomen uniformly dark brown to black, abdominal pile inconspicuous, yellow to brownish black on dorsal surface, markedly black and appressed on disc but predominantly pale ventrally. Male terminalia ( Figs 18–20 View FIGURES 18 – 20 ): Proctiger ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 18 – 20 ) large, cerci relativly short. Genital capsule ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 18 – 20 ) almost heart-shaped but rounded proximally, structures along distal margin of genital capsule characteristic, with a pair of slender projections in middle. Gonostylus flat, gradually dilated in distal half, with inner submedial spine. Aedeagal complex ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 18 – 20 ) only slightly dilated in distal part, medial lobe somewhat prominent.
Female ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 16 – 17 ). Body length 6.3 mm, wing length 6.5 mm.Head with ocellar tubercle less prominent than in male, head barely longer than high in profile. Frons tapering towards lower third, here about as broad as anterior ocellus. Transverse supra-antennal silvery whitish patch low and broad, reaching eye margin on each side. Antennal flagellum larger than in male, broadly oval, pedicel with subtriangular projection at inner distal margin. Arista short but densely pubescent in basal 2/3, appearing as thickened in this part. Postocular area only as broad as distance between upper ocelli. Palpus not dilated, yellow, slightly shorter than labellum.
Thorax: Scutum and scutellum similar to male, postpronotal callus and narrow line along upper margin of anepisternum yellow. Posterior margin of scutellum yellowish brown, spines yellow, middle spines much longer. Thoracic pubescence consisting of erect brownish hairs but pleura with predominantly whitish hairs. Legs as in male, usually only two last tarsomeres darkened dorsally. Wing as in male.
Abdomen shining black, slightly longer than wide, its pubescence semi-erect dorsally, shorter and denser ventrally.
Type material. The male holotype from Indonesia, Java, is preserved in ZMAN ( Woodley 2001) (= RNH now). It is provided with following labels:“/Gedeh, Java, Koningsberger, 1911, 1500–2000 m / Evaza Kerteszi de Meijere, 1914 / ZMAN, type Dipt. 0913.1/” [red label]. Condition of the holotype: head and right fore leg missing, terminalia in a microvial on the same pin.
Other material examined. Indonesia: 1 ♂ Sumatra, Fort de Cock [=Bukitinggi], 920 m, E. Jacobson ; 1 ♂ Tybodas, Terry Coll., both ZMAN. Laos: 1 ♂ Phow-kow-kuei, N of Ventiane , 800 m, 17.iv.1965, J.L. Gressitt, BPBM . Malaysia (E): 1 ♀ SE Borneo, 19 km N. of Kalabakan, Forest Camp, 30.x.1962, Y. Hirashima, BPBM .
Remarks. This species resembles E. nigritibia Chen et al., 2010 with similarly darkened hind tibia, but the male terminalia of the Chinese species are considerably different (see Fig. 226 in Yang et al. 2014). Distribution. Only the male holotype from Indonesia (Java) was known. We examined material from Sumatra and also from Laos and Malaysia for the first time.
