Type locality. China, Yunnan province, Gaoligongshan mts., 25°22ˏN 98°49ˏE, 1500–2500 m a.s.l.

Type material. Holotype, male ( NHMB), “[ China], YUNNAN [province], GAOLIGONG[shan] mts., 25 22N 98 49E, 1500–2500 m, 17–24/5 1995, Vít Kubáň leg. [white label, printed]”.

Description. Coloration ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 19 – 27. 19 – 27 ). Head terracotta, mandibles and maxillary palpi sienna. Antennae sienna, bases of first three antennomeres more or less largely ferrugineous. Prothorax yellow with pair of longitudinal, slightly oblique chestnut brown spots in posterior half, which not reaching posterior margin of pronotum. Meso- and metasternum terracotta, ventral side of abdomen sepia, sternites yellow bordered. Femora terracotta, tibiae and tarsi sepia. Scutellum and elytra yellow, sutural margins of each elytron excluding apical portion and area around scutellum very narrowly sepia bordered excluding apical portion.

Male. Eyes large and strongly protruding, head across eyes very slightly narrower than pronotum, lateral sides of head behind eyes almost straight, strongly converging posteriorly. Antennae extending slightly beyond three quarters of elytral length, antennomeres without visible impressions. Surface of head very finely imbricate-punctate, with fine, long, recumbent yellow pubescence, matt. Pronotum as long as wide, anterior margin strongly convex, anterior corners indistinct, rounded, lateral margins slightly convex, posterior corners somewhat more distinct than anterior, rounded, posterior margin convex. Surface of pronotum sculptured and pubescent like that of head, matt. Outer claws of all legs with rounded basal appendage. Elytra very slightly narrowing posteriorly, elytral venation very slight but distinct. Surface of elytra extremely finely and densely punctate with rather sparse, short, recumbent yellow pubescence, matt, almost velvety. Female unknown.

Length (male). 13.7 mm.

Differential diagnosis. Prothemus kubani sp. nov. is according to the shape of central portion of dorsal part of the aedeagus similar to Prothemus opacipennis (Pic, 1906) (Yunnan) , from which it differs by antennomeres without impressions, wider laterophyses, longer parameres and narrower preapical portions of lateral sides of dorsal part of the aedeagus (cf. Wittmer 1987 and Figs. 114–117 View FIGURES 114 – 121. 114 ).

Etymology. Patronymic, dedicated to its collector, Vítĕzslav Kubáň (NMPC).
