This spesies was described by Hartini and Takaku, 2003c and distributed only in Indonesia (Kalimantan, Sumatra and Java) .
Material examined: 16$$, 1130 m a.s.l., Selabintana, Mount Gede-Pangrango National Park, West Java, S 06° 52′14″ E 106°57′09″, 24-25 May 2006, Hartini, Rofik and Darmawan leg.; 15 May 2010, Hartini and Dwibadra leg., ex O. (S.) blumei , Synapsis ritsemae and species of the genus Onthophagus .
Holostaspella katakurai has been collected from scarabaeid dung beetles C. molossus , O. (O.) blumei , P. maurus and unidentified species of the genus Onthophagus .
