Strophedra tricornuta View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Figs. 6 View FIGURES 3 – 10 , 14 View FIGURES 11 – 15 )
Type material. CHINA: Holotype ♂, Jianfengling (18.744°N, 108.843°E), Ledong County, Hainan Province, 1050 m, 30.IV.2013, coll. Yinghui Sun, Wei Guan and Tengteng Liu, genitalia slide no. LSH15582 GoogleMaps . Paratype: 1♂, same data as holotype, except 27.IV.2014, coll. Tengteng Liu, Wei Guan and Xuemei Hu, genitalia slide no. LSH15548 GoogleMaps .
Diagnosis. The male genitalia of S. tricornuta are similar to those of S. laticolla in having a broad tegumen and a phallus with a small denticle and three spine-shaped cornuti. Strophedra tricornuta can be distinguished by the neck about half the width of the basal width of the valva, which is about 4/5 the width of the valva at the base in S.
laticolla ; and by having a denticle before the apex of the phallus ventrally, which is dorsal and located at about 4/5 the length of the phallus in S. laticolla .
Description. Adult ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 3 – 10 ) wingspan 9.5–10.0 mm. Head: Earthy yellow, with gray-tipped scales. Antenna deep earthy yellow, about 2/3 length of forewing. Labial palpus slender, reaching upper margin of compound eye, pale yellow. Thorax: Dorsum and tegula deep brown. Foreleg with coxa and femur yellow, tibia deep grayish yellow on outer surface, earthy yellow on inner surface, tarsus blackish brown basally and pale yellow distally; mid- and hindlegs with coxae and femora deep yellow, tibiae deep grayish yellow on outer surface, yellowish white on inner surface, tarsi black brown basally and pale yellow distally. Forewing widening towards rounded apex, length about two times of maximum width; costa arched, termen oblique, with an obvious notch below apex; scales light grayish brown; costa with nine pairs of grayish-yellow strigulae, basal three pairs not defined; median fascia from below third pair of strigulae oblique to 2/3 of discal cell on anterior margin, then bent ventrad to middle of dorsum, anterior half leaden with light blue gloss, posterior half yellowish brown, inner margin of median fascia ill defined; widening brown band from costa between fourth and fifth pair of strigulae oblique to upper corner of discal cell, then bent ventrad to before tornus, located beyond median fascia; leaden streak with light blue gloss below each of fifth and seventh pair of strigulae, streak below fifth pair of strigulae extending to beyond upper corner of discal cell, then oblique inside to beyond lower corner of discal cell, touching inner edge of ocelloid patch, streak below seventh pair of strigulae extending to notch of termen; ocelloid patch without black dashes or dots, inner edge leaden with light blue gloss, rather wide and vertical above tornus, outer edge absent; two light blue leaden streaks located between six short horizontal black dashes or dots, arranged in an arc from below seventh pair of strigulae to above tornus beyond inner edge of ocelloid patch; fringe gray, basal line deep gray except grayish brown in tornus. Hindwing pale grayish brown, grayish yellow along basal area of costa overlapped by forewing; fringe yellowish gray, basal line brown. Abdomen: Male genitalia ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ) with tegumen broad, about same length as cucullus. Valva slightly narrowed from base to before neck; costa curved medially by approximately 140°, with indistinct basal process; basal cavity well defined, subovate; neck distinct, width about 1/ 2 basal width of valva; sacculus with a bunch of fine setae at base, with long hairs extending from near base to neck; cucullus subovate, about half length of valva, densely covered with fine setae from ventro-basal corner to apex, with bristles along ventral margin, with tufted short spines extending from above ventro-basal corner to beyond neck and across 2/3 width of cucullus. Phallus with basal 2/3 uniform, distal 1/3 narrowed to apex, almost as long as cucullus, with a denticle before apex ventrally; three spine-shaped cornuti at basal 2/3 ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 11 – 15 a). Female unknown.
Distribution. China (Hainan).
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin tri- (three) and cornutus (cornutus), referring to the phallus with three cornuti.
