Distribution and habitat. Ameiva parecis is endemic to enclaves of open vegetation in the states of Rondônia and Mato Grosso, Brazil, in southern Amazonia ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ). It is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits cerrado vegetation surrounded by terra firme forest, where it is found on open sandy soil and under shrubs ( Colli et al. 2003a).
