Diploglossus fasciatus ( Gray, 1831)

Type-locality. unknown.

Pertinent taxonomic references. Gray (1831), Reuss (1834), Duméril & Bibron (1839), Boulenger (1885), Barbour (1909), Ávila-Pires (1995).

Distribution and habitat. Diploglossus fasciatus occurs in Peru, Bolivia and Brazil, with a disjunct distribution in southwestern Amazonia and in the Atlantic Forest ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). In Brazil, it is known from the states of Acre (Amazonian region), Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Paraná (Atlantic Forest). It is terrestrial and diurnal. In Brazilian Amazonia it occurs in areas with relatively low forest, apparently associated with bamboo dominated forest and secondary forest, and is rarely observed, which may indicate low density and/or seclusive habits ( Ávila-Pires 1995).
