Paromalus gilensis LeConte 1851: 164 . Carcinops gilensis (LeConte) ( Marseul 1855) View in CoL .
Diagnosis. This species is distinguished by the following combination of characters: Head: Frontal stria terminating at clypeolabral suture ( Fig. 3A View Figs ); marginal epistomal stria absent. Pronotum: Marginal stria moderately divergent from anterior edge along midline ( Fig. 4A View Figs ). Elytra: Dorsal stria 5 and sutural stria shorter than dorsal striae 1–4, terminating in basal third of elytra ( Fig. 8 View Figs ); internal and external subhumeral striae absent. First abdominal ventrite: One stria present, smooth surface texture ( Fig. 2A View Fig ). Aedeagus: Parameres moderately sinuate with slightly rounded tips ( Fig. 9B View Fig ).
Geographic Distribution and Natural History. Carcinops gilensis is known in the USA from southern Arizona and southern California and in Mexico
from Sonora and the Baja California Peninsula. It is typically associated with the necrotic stems of C. gigantea , P. pringlei , and F. cylindraceus .
