Diagnosis. This species is similar to X. lichneuta Meyrick superficially. But it can be distinguished by the following characters: the thorax has two black indistinct dots on 1/3 and 2/3 middle or absent, dark brown dot like scales on middle of forewing. X. vaginata sp. n. is similar to X. lichneuta Meyrick in the genitalia. But it differs in the following genital characters: the valval harpe reaching middle of ventral margin of valva in the male genitalia ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ); sterigma is two times convex at middle ( Fig. 5C View FIGURES 5 ), ductus bursae is 4 times as long as corpus bursae in the female genitalia ( Fig. 4C View FIGURES 4 ).

Description. Adult ( Figs 2F, 2G View FIGURE 2 ) Wingspan 14–15 mm. Vertex rough and erect pale ocherous scales, speckled with dark brown near tip, frons with ocherous appressed scales. Antenna filiform, scape ocherous mixed with dark brown with pecten, flagellum dark brown. Labial palpus little curved, 1 st and 2 nd segments pale ocherous mixed with dark brown, 3 rd segment pale ocherous with dark brown tip outwardly, ocherous inwardly, and null white scales dorsally. Foreleg femur ocherous, tibia ocherous irrorated with dark brown, each segment of tarsus dark brown mixed with ocherous and ringed with black at terminal area; midleg femur to tibia ocherous mixed with brown, each segment of tarsus ocherous and sprinkled with brown, ringed with black at terminal area; hindleg ocherous. Thorax pale gray, with two dark brown indistinct dots at 1/3 and 2/3 middle; tegula pale gray, basal half dark brown. Forewing base color pale ocherous, scattered dark brown scales, dark brown dot at middle, dark brown scales strigulated transversely at apical area, apex orange brown, dorsum 1/5 to 3/5 scattered black scales, fringe with dark brown scales around apex, pale ocherous gray dorsum. Hindwing and fringe ocherous gray. Abdomen ocherous gray dorsally and mixed with dark brown ventrally.

Male genitalia ( Figs 3C, 3G View FIGURE 3 ): Uncus triangular. Socius little curved outwardly, with one thorn at apex. Valva rectangular, gradually dilated to apex, rounded distal end, long arm originated from base, parallel-sided, some spinules rounded with some bristles at distal end, reach to middle of ventral margin of valva. Saccus clavate. Aedeagus little longer than valva, with cornuti composed of four rows of spinules from 1/5 to 2/5 posteriorly.

Female genitalia ( Figs 4C View FIGURES 4 , 5C View FIGURES 5 ): Papilla analis semioval with hairs. Intersegmental membrane between papilla analis and 8 th segment as long as 8 th segment. Apophysis anterioris branched and as long as apophysis posterioris. Stergima well sclerotized, densely covered by short setae, two times convex at middle, protect ostium. Ductus bursae about 4 times as long as corpus bursae, membranous, granulated. Signum with enfolded transverse ridge at middle of corpus bursae.

Distribution. Korea, Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu).

Host plant. Euonymus oxyphyllus var. oxyphyllus ( Yagi 2022) .
