Griffinigryllacris View in CoL n. gen.

Diagnosis: Medium size (17–22 mm) and body robust ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 57–61 ). Head globose and prominent, ocelli poorly developed, space between antennal cavities as wide as scape ( Figs. 58, 60, 61 View FIGURES 57–61 ); fore coxa with a small and unarticulated spine, legs moderately short and robust, with four pairs of movable ventral spines on fore and middle tibiae; wings well developed, ovoid, without surpassing the apex of abdomen. Abdomen without traces of femoroabdominal apparatus; 10 th abdominal tergite of the male little modified and with two small hooks; subgenital plate short and rectangular, wider than long, with simple styles and without modification on the notch ( Fig. 59 View FIGURES 57–61 ). Female abdomen with unspecialized tergites; female genital plate simple and triangular; ovipositor as long as abdomen and curved from the middle section, rather thin and with sharp apex ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 57–61 ).

Included species: Type species: Griffinigryllacris reunionis (Karny, 1932) n. comb. (before Niphetogryllacris ) and two additional species: G. adelungi (Griffini, 1911c) n. comb., G. mauritiana (Griffini, 1909c) n. comb. (these two species before Niphetogryllacris ).

Etymology: Dedicated to the memory of Achille Griffini as a recognition to his great contributions to raspy crickets, plus typical termination— gryllacris common to genera of this family.

Comparison: The new genus differs from the African genera and others relative taxa from its prominent head, 9 th abdominal tergite unmodified, 10 th with hooks little developed, notch of the subgenital plate straight in contrast to Stictogryllacris species who have the 9 th tergite with denticulations, 10 th tergite with hooks well developedand some species with the notch bilobated. The females of Griffinigryllacris differs from the Barombogryllacris females for its longer wings and straight or little curved ovipositor (the ovipositor in Barombogryllacris is well upcurved).

Distribution: Madagascar and adjacent islands ( Reunion and Mauricio, maybe others unknown species in neighbor islands).
