Remarks. Record need to be checked. L. acanthocercoides s.str. is a valid species described from European Russia ( Fischer 1854). Discrimination between L. ciliata and L. acanthocercoides was imperfect during the second part of the 20th century, so confusion is likely. Kotov (2009) confirmed the presence of this species only in the northern Palaearctic, yet perhaps a closely related species could be present. Laboratory studies on the life cycle of L. acanthocercoides was done by Murugan & Job (1982).
Distribution. L. acanthocercoides s.str is distributed in the northern Palaearctic, the Indian populations could be confused with L. ciliata or other species.
Leydigia (Neoleydigia) ankammaraoi Prasad, Santa Kumari & Bose, 1985
Type locality. “rice fields of Mutluru and Uppalapadu , Guntur District , and a fish farm located near Vuyyuru, Krishna District ”, Andhra Pradesh, India ( Prasad et al. 1985) .
Indian records. Andhra Pradesh — Prasad et al. (1985); General record— Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003).
Remarks. Junior synonym of L. ciliata (see Kotov 2009).
Leydigia (Neoleydigia) australis Sars, 1885
Indian records. Jharkhand — Gurney (1907); Tamil Nadu — Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2002); West Bengal — Sewell (1935); General record— Fernando & Kanduru (1984), Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987), Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003).
Remarks. Very doubtful record. L. australis s. str. was described from Australia ( Sars 1885). It is a valid Australian species, most probably an endemic of Australia (Kotov 2009). Records from India most probably belonged to L. ciliata .
