In Unixenus , there are twelve previously described species including the type specimen Unixenus padmanabhai Jones, 1937 , from India; Unixenus broelemanni Condé and Jacquemin, 1962 , from Madagascar; Unixenus vuillaumei Condé and Terver, 1963 , from the Ivory Coast, and eight Australian species including: Unixenus mjoebergi Verhoeff, 1924 ; Unixenus attemsi Nguyen Duy-Jacquemin and Condé, 1967 ; Unixenus corticolus Short and Huynh, 2011 ; Unixenus karajinensis Short and Huynh, 2011 ; Unixenus barrabaensis Short and Huynh, 2013 ; Unixenus carnarvonensis Short and Huynh, 2013 ; Unixenus corringlensis Short and Huynh, 2013 and Unixenus myallensis Short and Huynh, 2013 and most recently Unixenus intragramineus Huynh and Veenstra, 2018c .

Genus diagnosis: Each eye with eight ommatidia. Body with 10 tergites, 9 pleural projections; 13 pairs of legs. 8 antennomeres: VI longest and VIII shortest with 4 sensory cones. Antennomere VI with a setiform sensillum between two thick bacilliform sensilla, a conical sensillum located in posterior position. Labrum surface with spherical papillae gradually reducing in size toward posterior margin. Gnathochilarium lateral palp 1.5–2.5 times longer than medial palp. 20–22 sensilla on medial palp and 13 on lateral palp. Two or more tergal trichomes rows in two latero-posterior clusters either side midline, with central gap. Anterior row often uneven, intermediate rows rarely in defined rows and posterior row of trichome sockets continuous or with a medial gap. Tarsus 2 with setiform seta.
