= Thelypteris brausei (Hieron.) Alston, J. Wash. Acad. Sci. View in CoL 48: 233. 1958.
Range:— Colombia to Bolivia (CO, LP).
Ecology:— Common; terrestrial in humid forests; 1900–3500 m.
Notes:— Blades generally thicker-textured than in A. rudis and with denser, more persistent scales on the stipe bases. Amauropelta brausei lacks hamate hairs between the veins abaxially, while such hairs are generally present in A. rudis . A very variable taxon that may comprise more than one species. Normally, this is a very large species, with fronds often exceeding 1 m, but rare specimens are precociously fertile, with fronds only ca. 40 cm long. There are some intermediate specimens between A. brausei , A. euchlora , and A. rudis . These may represent hybrids, since at least some of them appear to have malformed spores.
