Amauropelta cheilanthoides (Kunze) A.Löve & D.Löve View in CoL , Taxon 26: 325. 1977.
= Aspidium pterifolium Mett. ex Kuhn, Linnaea View in CoL 36: 110. 1869.
= Thelypteris cheilanthoides (Kunze) Proctor, Bull. Inst. View in CoL Jamaica, Sci. Ser. 5: 58. 1953.
Range:— Jamaica; Hispaniola; mountains from Mexico to Venezuela and Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, SC); southeastern Brazil.
Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial in humid forests, along streams and trails; (400–)950–2600(– 3000 m).
Notes:— Very variable; may comprise more than one species. In Bolivia, specimens collected above 2000 m have costal and rachial hairs about twice as long as on specimens from lower elevations; leaves are also much larger, with thicker petioles. Croziers are often mucilaginous. The high elevation form occurs in La Paz and Cochabamba, whereas the low elevation form appears to be absent from Cochabamba. More study is needed.
