Type material. CHINA: Hainan Island: Holotype Ƌ, Core Area (18.725°N, 108.868°E), Diaoluoshan Nature Reserves, 980 m, 24.IV.2014, coll. Tengteng Liu,Wei Guan and Xuemei Hu, genitalia slide No. HS14058. Paratypes: 1Ƌ, 23.IV.2014, other data same as for holotype. Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region: 2Ƌ, Mt. Pinglong (22°09′N, 107°59′E), 510 m, 6.IV.2002, coll. Shulian Hao and Huanjun Xue, genitalia slide Nos. DZH11072, DZH11071.
Diagnosis. This species is superficially similar to P. kuznetzovi Lvovsky, 1988 by having a similar forewing pattern, but can be distinguished by the costa being distally produced to a rounded hollow with two small apical teeth in the male genitalia, which are absent in the latter species.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) with forewing expanse 9.0 mm. Head with frons brown, vertex pale ochreous brown, snowy white near antenna, occiput dark ochreous brown. Labial palpus with basal and second palpomeres pale yellowish brown on inner surface, dark brown mottled black on outer surface; third palpomere dark ochreous brown, white at apex, slightly longer than second palpomere. Antenna with scape white, flagellum with ventral surface dark brown, dorsal surface white on basal 1/6, white alternated with dark brown on distal 5/6. Thorax and tegula dark ochreous brown. Forewing ochreous brown, with four white streaks edged with black scales: costa with a streak extending obliquely from about 2/3 outward to end of cell at middle, wider; dorsum with a straight streak near base extending to base of fold, a second medially curved outward streak at basal 1/4 reaching beyond basal 1/ 3 of upper margin of cell, a third fine streak extending obliquely from middle outward to before lower angle of cell; tornus with a quadrate grayish brown spot suffused to before lower angle of cell, forming an inverted V pattern with preceding white streak, edged with black scales; apex with a white elliptic spot bordered with blackish brown scales; cilia yellow except dark gray along distal part of costa, grayish brown tinged with white basally along tornal area. Hindwing and cilia dark gray. Fore leg dark brown, dorsally marked with small white spots, white apically; mid leg with femur grayish yellow, tibia blackish brown with white spots dorsally, with a long tuft of white scales at apex, tarsi with basal tarsomere blackish brown except white basally and distally, second and fifth tarsomeres white, remaining two tarsomeres blackish brown; hind leg with femur and tibia grayish yellow, tarsi with basal tarsomere blackish brown except white near base, remaining four tarsomeres with ventral surface grayish yellow tinged with brown, dorsal surface white except blackish brown on third tarsomere.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 16 – 19 ). Uncus broad at base, narrowed to 3/4, distal quarter mastoid, rounded apically. Gnathos triangular, slender in distal 1/4, rounded at apex, about half length of uncus; lateral arms narrowed anteriorly, about 3/5 length of gnathos. Tegumen branched from posterior 2/5, deeply concave in V shape from middle on anterior margin, lateral branches narrowed anteriorly. Valva narrow at base, widened to before apex, rounded apically; costa weakly sclerotized, clubbed, narrowed at base, widened distally, produced to a rounded hollow with two small apical teeth; sacculus basally wide, more than 1/3 width of valva, distally widened and obliquely curved upward, reaching beyond apex of costa, bearing dense long setae on distal half. Saccus triangular, narrowed to rounded apex, about same length as uncus. Juxta gladiate, slightly widened distally, concave triangularly at middle on posterior margin; basal rod slender, aequilate, reaching anterior 1/4 of saccus. Phallus almost uniformly straight, acute at apex; cornutus absent.
Female unknown.
Distribution. China (Hainan, Guangxi).
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin gladiatus (gladiate), referring to the sword-shaped juxta of the male genitalia.
