Lanonia manglaensis View in CoL
This species was originally described in Licuala . Henderson & Bacon (2011) noted that it was dioecious (like all other Lanonia species) rather than monoecious (like Licuala ). However, they did not transfer it to Lanonia because of doubts over leaf morphology. The central segment of the leaf is not split (like Lanonia ). Recently molecular data has shown it to be embedded within Lanonia (Christine Bacon, pers. comm.) and we therefore make the transfer. Lanonia manglaensis thus becomes an unusual species of Lanonia in having an unsplit central segment. This is perhaps not so unusual because rarely specimens are seen with unsplit central segments.
