Remark. Genus only known from Brazil, up to date monospecific.

Type host. Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. ex Spreng.) K. Schum. (Sterculiaceae) , presently reported as belong to Malvaceae family ( Lorenzi et al. 2006; Flora do Brasil 2020).

Type locality. Ilhéus , Bahia , Brazil .

Relationship to host plant. Vagrants found mainly on immature fruit. It also occurs on buds, flowers, young leaves and branches with abundant trichomes. No mites were found on older fruits, leaves or branches ( Oliveira et al. 2012b).

Remarks. Type species in the genus Gymnaceria . Only known from the type host/locality.

Type host plant status. Native fruit tree, not endemic ( Colli-Silva & Pirani 2020; Tropicos 2020), widely cultivated in tropical regions of the country, occurring naturally in the Amazonia biome ( Lorenzi et al. 2006; Colli-Silva & Pirani 2020). Sweetened fruit pulp is of high commercial value ( Oliveira et al. 2012b).

Type host. Gossypium hirsutum L. ( Malvaceae )

Type locality. Campo Fomento Federal , Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil .

Relationship to host plant. Vagrants, mites bronze the mature leaves and produce tip blighting on the young leaves ( Keifer 1955).

Additional localities in Brazil. Seridó ( Costa et al. 1954), Rio Grande do Norte.

Remark. Type species in the genus Heterotergum . Only known from the type host/locality.

Type host plant status. Tropical perennial shrubs, naturalized, extensively cultivated as fiber source ( Queironga et al. 2019).
