232 Vareeboona mangiferae ( Keifer, 1946b) : 43. ( Chandrapatya et al. 2017: 176).

Previous genera assignments.

Tegonotus , Oxypleurites .

Synonymy.

Vareeboona mangiferae ( Chandrapatya, 1997) in Chandrapatya & Boczek (1997: 15)

Type host. Mangifera indica L. ( Anacardiaceae ).

Type locality. Hilo , Hawaii .

Reports in Brazil. Brasília ( Navia & Flechtmann 2000b) , Distrito Federal.

Relationship to host plant. Vagrants, rust producers on the underside of leaves ( Keifer 1946b).

Remarks. This species was known only from females collected at Hilo, Hawaii. Two females and one male were collected in Brasilia, DF , Central Brazil by Navia & Flechtmann (2000b), who redescribed the species and reported that mites were not causing symptoms. According to Navia & Flechtmann (2000), this species presents a bifurcate palp genual seta which they suggested was a strong enough character to establish a new genus. In this way it was replaced by a new genus, Vareeboona Chandrapatya, Konvipasruang & Amrine, 2015. The original type species in the genus Vareeboona was Vareeboona mangiferae ( Chandrapatya, 1997) , however, this species is identical to Vareeboona mangiferae (Keifer, 1946) (new combination and synonymy in Chandrapatya et al. 2017 (p. 176–178; fig. 207, p. 394); and became the type species for Vareeboona [pedipalp genual seta d bifurcate, a basal character].

Type host plant status in Brazil. Exotic fruit tree, widely cultivated especially in tropical areas of the country ( Lorenzi et al. 2006). Mango is of great economic importance for Brazil, due to high domestic consumption, as well as the high export rate. This fruit is still the most exported fruit by Brazil, and is consumed both fresh and processed in the form of pulps and juices. Though being produced in the entire national territory, mango plantations are mostly concentrated in the Northeast ( Kist et al. 2018).
