Astymachus phragmitis Trjapitzin 1962: 563 – 564 View in CoL . Holotype ♀, Russia, ZISP, not examined.

Diagnosis. Female. Length, including ovipositor, 1.59 – 1.66 mm. Body generally yellow, antenna with F1 – F4 and clava slightly dusky; fore wing hyaline with a small, weakly infuscate spot below the junction of the marginal and stigmal veins; head ( Figure 2m View Figures 2 ) about 2× as long as eye; palp formula 4 – 3; antenna ( Figure 2n View Figures 2 ) with F1 subquadrate, F2 F 5 strongly transverse, F6 slightly transverse, largest; clava entire; scutellum with about 32 setae; wings not shortened, fore wing ( Figure 3b View Figures 3 ) about 3× as long as broad and about 4× as long as mid tibia, reaching well past cercal plates; marginal vein ( Figure 3c View Figures 3 ) not appearing to reach anterior wing margin and not more than about 0.8× stigmal vein; stigmal vein ( Figure 3c View Figures 3 ) about 3× as long as depth of uncus; discal setae below apex of venation about one-half as long as distance between sockets or about 3× as long as diameter of socket; ovipositor about 2.7× mid tibia and 2.1× gonostylus. Male. Length 1.25 mm. Antenna ( Figure 3a View Figures 3 ) with funicle segments subequal, subquadrate with F1 and F6 slightly larger, linear sensilla on F6; aedeagus equal in length to mid tibia and about 13× as long as broad.

Biology. Reared from Nipponaclerda turanica (Borchsenius) ( Hemiptera : Aclerdidae ) on Phragmites communis Trin. (Poaceae) ( Trjapitzin 1962).

Distribution. Russia (Daghestan); Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan ( Trjapitzin 1989).

Material examined

Paratypes. RUSSIAN FEDERATION [former USSR], 5♀, 2♂, Dagestan [sic], 20 km E KaraNogaya, ex Nipponaclerda turanica on Phragmites 2 July 1960 (E.S. Sugonjaev) .

Comments. In the article originally describing this species ( Trjapitzin 1962), the species epithet is spelt both phragmitis and as phragmits. As both spellings are currently available under the code I am hereby choosing, as first reviser, phragmitis as the correct spelling (see ICZN 1999, Article 24.2.3).

Females of this species can be recognised by the relatively numerous setae on the scutellum.
